The quote 'Form follows Emotion' is widely attributed to Hartmut Esslinger.
The German industrial designer is one of the earliest examples of the Designer+Entrepreneur make. He and his firm, frog, has been instrumental in creating several examples of iconic design which include, the Apple IIc, the Sony-Wega Music System Concept 51k, Lufthansa's global design and brand strategy, SAP's corporate identity and software user interface and Microsoft Windows branding and user interface design to simply name a few.
He along with Steve Jobs created the Snow White design language for Apple in the 1970s and after Jobs' unceremonious resignation from Apple, Mr. Esslinger moved to NeXT.
In December 1990, Hartmut Esslinger was featured on the cover of BusinessWeek making him the only living designer thus honored since Raymond Loewy in 1934.
